Your first visit to our Surgery.
Our reception staff will greet you, take your
details and enter these on the practice
computer system. They will ask you to
complete a simple medical history
questionnaire which only takes a few minutes
but provides us with information which may be
relevant to your dental treatment.
You may download this questionnaire from our
website (link below) to complete and bring with
you.
If you have problems, we will give you any help
you need. Please bring a list of any
medications that you are currently taking.
It is not normally necessary for us to have
access to previous dental records, however
feel free to bring copies of recent dental X-rays
or treatment plans.
You can then relax in our comfortable waiting lounge. A member of staff will collect you and bring
you to your new dentist. After introduction, your dentist will discuss your personal dental needs,
your dental history and any concerns you might have about your teeth orfuture treatment.
The purpose of this visit is to get to know you, listen to what you have to say and examine your
teeth and gums thoroughly. Unless emergency treatment is required we confine your first visit to
discussion of your dental needs ( if any), the taking of a dental history, and a thorough dental
examination. together with any necessary X-rays.
Your dentist will then explain the findings and discuss treatment options/ recommendations
identified during the examination. If treatment is complex, it may be necessary to take impressions
to allow models of the teeth to be made and arrange a subsequent discussion appointment.
By explaining options fully, we enable you to make an informed decision about which procedure is
right for you. You will be given a written report and treatment plan which will include an estimate of
costs. After treatment is complete, we can discuss how often your routine examination and hygienist
appointments will be. For most patients this will be every six months. We can either arrange your
check-up appointment at your final visit or our computer system will generate a recall to be sent to
you via post , e-mail or text messaging.
Your health and comfort are our primary concerns. Please let us know of any conditions requiring
special attention, or changes in your health during treatment. If a problem should arise at any time,
please inform the Dentist, the Practice Manager, or an appropriate staff member so that we can
resolve the matter.
Our patients can expect from us;
A high degree of professional skill and ability.
A comprehensive examination.
A diagnosis and an explanation of our findings.
The development of treatment alternatives and an explanation of the
costs and benefits of each.
The integrity to perform all services to the best of our knowledge and
ability.
This allows each patient to make an informed decision in selecting the treatment most appropriate
to his or her individual needs, means and desires.
Our aim is to prevent future problems. We offer preventative advice to help you have teeth you can
be proud of. Sometimes this comes naturally, sometimes nature requires a little help.
Do ask at the start if you have questions, concerns or wishes. The only silly question is the one you
don’t ask.
